CURRENT

  • Sept2017 – Dec2020: 5G-Picture (EU-funded H2020 5G-PPP), HUAWEI. PI:

Prof. Dr. Eckhard Grass (IHP, DE). Τo address the limitations of the current D-RAN and C-RAN approaches, 5G-PICTURE exploits flexible functional splits that can be dynamically selected, to optimise resource and energy efficiency. This results in a paradigm shift, from RAN and C-RAN to ʽDis-Aggregated RANʼ (DA-RAN). Key enablers for DA-RAN are 1) network ʽsoftwarizationʼ, migrating from the conventional closed networking model to an open reference platform, supported through 2) HW programmability, where HW is configured directly by network functions, to provide the required performance.

PAST PROJECTS PARTICIPATION

  • Jan’16 – June 17: Q4Health (EU-funded H2020 Fire+), Eurecom. PI: Donal Morris (RerZinc,IR). Optimization on the LTE/RAN in order to prioritize traffic to support reliable communications for eHealth applications. Work on the design and implementation of a programmable scheduler for the eN of OpenAirInterface (OAI).
  • Jan’16 – June 17: COHERENT (EU-funded H2020 5G-PPP), Eurecom. PI: Dr. Tao Chen (VTT). Network abstractions, virtualization technologies, SDN and NFV for the RAN. Work on RAN Sharing prolems and the design and implementation of a SDN controller for the RAN.
  • Sept’15 – Dec.’15: 5G-XHAUL (EU funded H2020, 5G-PPP), UTH. PI: Eckhard Grass (IHP) Wireless-optical network integration using the SDN approach with the focus on the Backhaul network. Work on the design aspects of the architecture.
  • Nov’12 – Nov’15: CONTENT (EU-funded FP7), UTH. PI: Professor Dimitra Simeonidou (U. Bristol) The project focus was on wireless-optical network integration using the SDN approach.
